A petite sterling silver case from the very early 1900s. Originally made to attach to an Edwardian chatelaine, this exquisite piece suits a long necklace chain beautifully and makes a fabulous locket.
A somewhat rare find in this size, the case has a finely hand-chased scroll design with a hinged plain lid and a brightly gilded interior - the surprise pop of gold as the case opens is wonderful. Lovely to handle, a secure place to carry a special note or token.
+ All the details
The case has full hallmarks for sterling silver, the assay office of Birmingham, England and the year 1905. The inside cap is also hallmarked. The silversmith's mark 'WH' is present.
Size: 1.25 inches or 32mm long and 15mm wide at the lid end, tapering towards the top. The drop from the chain including the fob clip is 2.35 inches or 60mm.
Weight: 4.7 gms (case only)
Age: 1905 (113 years of age)
Condition: Very, very good. A few tiny shallow ripples on one side do not detract, this is a very strong case with the hinged lid snug and secure.
The locket case is presented on a new sterling silver chain and sterling fob clip, both stamped for 925 silver. The good quality chain is 30 inches or 76cm long - a versatile chain that can be used with other pendants. Photograph 5 shows the necklace on a life size torso.
A very elegant case that looks perfectly beautiful as a unique locket.
