A sterling silver antique locket from the late Victorian era with a delightful all-over geometric star pattern.
The nicely rounded rectangle locket has an applied rose gold quatrefoil to the front and a 'kiss' mark in each corner! This is an exceptionally beautiful fob locket that is smooth and lovely to handle.
Of European descent, the locket is suspended from the short length of silver fob chain that was found attached.
+ All the details
There are no silver stamps (not unusual for the Victorian period) the locket has been carefully touchstone tested and is guaranteed as sterling silver. The short fob chain has a clear punch mark for the letter 'A' (possibly for Argentum or silver).
The inside has a two oval photo recesses, the locket hinges along the bottom edge and opens towards the front. On one side there is an original photograph of a beautiful young Victorian woman - easily removed if desired. The other side has a new black satin liner.
Locket Size: .75 x 1 inches (19 x 25mm) and approximately 8mm thick. The drop from the necklace chain including the short length of fob chain is 1.85 inches or 47mm.
Weight: 5.2 gms
Age: late 1800s
Condition: Very good. Beautiful natural patina throughout; the inside has a few tiny darker patches. The loop at the top is worn (see image #2) but still strong. The integral hinge is working perfectly and the locket closes tightly and stays closed.
The Chain: The locket is presented on a new sterling silver rolo or belcher chain, 50cm or slightly under 20 inches long. Locket and chain are shown on a life size torso in photograph 3.
Beautiful in every aspect, this fatly round locket is nicely weighted and lovely to wear. I love the all-over pattern and the contrasting applied rose gold quatrefoil.
