A very special Victorian sterling silver locket, smooth and lovely with hand chased Forget-me-not flowers and acanthus scrolls to the front.
The locket back has the classic all-over Victorian Ivy Leaf design, symbolic of fidelity and everlasting (evergreen) love - a gorgeous love token.
+ All the details
Sterling silver with English hallmarks. The stamps on the back are polished smooth but there is a very crisp stamp on the inside front cover - the Lion Passant of England and the date letter for Birmingham 1882. The maker's mark 'K&Co.' is readable under magnification.
The inside of the locket has two original photo retaining rims (one is stamped for sterling) with new black card liners. An articulated bail ensures that the locket sits well when worn.
Locket Size: 1.15 x 1.37 inches or 29 x 35mm and gently curving out on both sides to approximately 10mm in thickness. The overall height including the bail is 1.85 inches or 47mm.
Presented on a new 24 inch or 61cm sterling silver chain with a 1.5mm wide Belcher or Rolo link, stamped 925 to the clasp. Shown on a life size torso in image #4.
Weight: 8.7 grams (without the chain)
Age: 1882 -135 years of age.
Excellent. A very strong locket in amazing order - nice thick covers despite worn hallmarks, the locket closes tightly with a nice pop and the hinge is excellent. The photo rims are purpose made and extremely well fitted. Lovely patina throughout.
A beautifully designed and expertly made locket with lovely size and proportions - testimony to the skill of the Victorian silversmith.
