A Victorian era antique locket with with a polished gold shell - classically beautiful and very elegant.
+ All the details
Polished gold fill on the outside and matte finish on the inside, yellow gold with the lovely rosy tint of old gold. The inside has both original photo rims in place and celluloid photo covers. The locket hinges at the bottom edge.
Inside here is a heart-shaped "W&H Co." mark inside the locket - this piece was made by Wightman & Hough Co. whose very cute slogan was "There's a heart in every locket", the company operated from 1856 to 1922. For historical interest, I've included one of their advertisements in image #2.
Locket Size: Just over 1 inch or 26m diameter, with a slim profile of approximately 4.5mm.
Gold fill and found with the locket, the chain is 24 inches or 61 cm long, 2mm wide with a flat cable link. The chain has a lovely little dog clip with a worn stamp '1/20' for gold fill.
There is no clasp to the chain, at 24 inches it will slip over the head - I believe this chain has been shortened from an extra long Victorian muff chain. A useful and beautiful chain, shown on a life size torso in image #3
Note: I have one of these chains that I wear frequently - the lovely patina and color has only improved with handling.
Weight: 11.9 grams total, 6.1 grams locket only.
Condition: very, very good. The locket has very mild surface wear, one side has a tiny double indentation in the 12 o'clock position (looks like baby teeth marks but will not show in photographs). Please note that any dark patches are reflections, not marks. The locket closes well with a nice snap, the beautiful integral hinge is excellent. The clip is working perfectly.
Smooth and lovely to handle with superb color to the polished gold, this Victorian locket with gorgeous versatile chain is simply lovely.
