A very beautiful Victorian sterling silver locket hand chased with geometric crosses or kisses and ivy leaves to the front. A romantic beauty, the Victorian Ivy leaf motif symbolised fidelity and long lasting love.
The locket has a rim of silver starred disks and applied silver balls - a truly beautiful locket from the aesthetic design period of the 1800s.
+ All the Details
Sterling silver, with full English hallmarks for Birmingham, England and the year 1881. Both covers are hallmarked, as is the articulated bail; a sign of good quality.
The locket has single photo rim in place with a new black card liner. The back of the locket is flat and smoothly polished with a textured border.
A medium to large size, measuring 1.18 x 1.57 inches (30 x 40mm) not including the beaded edge. The locket is 11mm in thickness.
Found with the locket, a heavy Victorian twisted link chain with large bolt ring clasp, 44cm or 17.32 inches long. The chain and fittings are unmarked, testing as sterling silver and guaranteed as such.
The bolt ring is large enough for the locket to clip onto in the Victorian fashion, or the chain can simply be passed through the bail. Photograph #4 shows the necklace on a full size torso, two images with the chain shown in both configurations.
Age: 1881 - 136 years of age.
Weight:17 grams (locket and chain)
Condition: Excellent. Some very mild surface wear to the back, the maker's mark is too worn to decipher. The beautiful integral hinge is in very good working order, the locket closes positively and stays closed with no gaps. All trim is in place and undamaged - this is a good, strong locket necklace.
The embellishment to this locket is beautifully designed and very well made. A somewhat rare beauty with a very romantic theme -
