Antique Sterling Silver Locket | 1908 Edwardian Silver Envelope | Hammered Silver Stamp Case | Hallmarked - 24 Inch Sterling Silver Chain

A sterling silver envelope that was originally a stamp holder attached to an Edwardian chatelaine or pocket watch fob - it makes a unique and lovely locket.

Both sides have a beaten or hammered Arts & Crafts finish giving lovely shimmer with change of light.

The stamp case locket has a hinged 'envelope flap' that clips shut - wonderful for holding a special love note, inspirational prayer or photograph.

+ All the details

The envelope has full English hallmarks for the assay office of Chester, England and the year 1908. The hallmarks are stamped in amongst the beaten pattern on the front - see the inset image #4.

Size: .85 x 1.1 inch or 22 x 28mm in size, approximately 4mm in thickness.

Condition: Very good. The envelope closes nicely and the hinge is good. No splits in the silver but it is slightly concave on both sides from many decades of use and is priced accordingly.

Weight: 3.6 grams - this is a very light pendant.

Age: 1908 - 109 years of age.

The Chain
Presented on a new 24 inch or 61cm chain, 925 sterling silver and stamped as such to the clasp. Photograph 3 shows the locket and chain on a life size torso.

Janne's Observations:
Edwardian silver stamp envelopes are useful, fun and very beautiful as a locket - they are a great conversation starter. The beaten silver finish on this piece is lovely.
