Victorian Wedding Brooch | 1888 Twin Horseshoes, Butterfly & Bird | Hallmarked Wedding Pin, Lucky Horseshoes Bouquet Brooch - Something Old

Sorry, this item has sold.

A Victorian wedding brooch in sterling silver, twin lucky horseshoes embellished with a butterfly, swallow, ivy leaves and a sweet little sunflower.

This Aesthetic Period brooch is an exquisite piece that would be lovely pinned to a bouquet - the perfect 'Something Old' or a wonderful Valentines Day or Anniversary gift.

+ All the details

The brooch is of English descent with crisp hallmarks for sterling silver, the City of Birmingham, England and the year 1888. There is also a maker's mark 'S.Bros' for the Victorian silversmiths, Sydenham Brothers.

Note: there is much debate about which way up horseshoes should be - in Victorian jewelry the curved edge is upwards; this brooch looks fine either way as shown!

Size: 4 x 3cm or 1.57 x 1.18 inches and 3mm in thickness. Shown on a life size torso in image #2.

Weight: 5.8 grams. (Though substantial, the brooch is hollow so not too heavy and sits well when pinned)

Age: 1888 - 128 years of age.

Excellent - no faults at all and I would say this brooch is of museum quality. The brooch has very nice natural patina to the silver, the steel pin is straight very sharp and the hinge is very strong.

Janne's Notes:
A stunning piece of silversmithing - amazing in its expert design and construction - a beautiful bridal gift.
